Highland County, OH Courthouse and Document Pictures

Here are a few pictures from my trip to the Highland County, OH Courthouse in August 2004.  Note the signatures of family and close friends on the estate documents.  Samuel Strain's signature is clearly the same as his earlier ones in Abbeville, SC.  I failed to locate any signature of David Strain on a document.  I'll keep looking, though!

A Civil War memorial monument at the front of the Courthouse. As a drummer, I couldn't resist taking a photo.

A closer view of the Drummer Boy on the monument.

NSDAR dedication plaque to Revolutionary Soldiers buried in Highland County.

Detail of the plaque, showing my GGGGgrandfather, David Strain, as well as his brother Samuel. Thomas was from PA, and probably a distant cousin.

David Strain's admistrator's bond. Signatures of his nephew John R. Strain, and William Patton and Wm. Hughey.

David Strain's Estate Inventory. Signatures of Edward Byram, David's younger brother Samuel Strain, and George Elwood.

James Thornton's administrator's bond. The mark of Jane Thornton, John Thornton, Samuel Strain, and William Garrett.

The Thornton and Garrett families were closely related to the Strain families, having also moved from Abbeville, SC.

Samuel Strain's signature on his will. It is very faded, and almost illegible. This was the best picture I could get at the time.
