Air Mount (Airmount), Yalobusha Co., MS

The town of Airmount has a bit of mystery to it, as there was apparently a settlement about a mile south of there named "Honey Cut" which moved to the Airmount location.  In addition, the sale of the land doesn't seem to match with the dates that early settlers lived there.  Regardless, the WPA compiled a history of the town in the 1930s, some 50 years after the Strain family had left, as they were clearly settled by 1890 in Pittsboro, and probably had moved there even earlier.

The final version of the town Airmount compiled for the WPA "History of Yalobusha County."

There are several "working" copies before the final compilation on Airmount. Here is the first page of one of them, from the MDAH.

The Murphree Quarterly published a short article about a reunion at the Airmount Primitive Baptist Church, also known as the Loosa Skuna church.

The Airmount cemetery is located adjacent to where this church used to stand. It was burned by arson just a few years ago.

The Murphree Quarterly also has a page with pictures of J. M. Strain's home "Airmount." These four pictures are the only ones I've located so far.
