Signatures on Wills from Abbeville, SC (96 District)

These pages contains low resolution graphic images of the numerous signatures on Wills, Administration Bonds, Inventories and Appraisals, Estate Sales, Annual Returns, and Final Accounts for the many estate packets related to Strain in the Courthouse in Abbeville.  By examining and comparing these signatures, it is possible to affirm these as the same men (or women) on their Audited Accounts for the Revolutionary War, or on their estates in Highland Co., OH.  In addition, if some men have the same name, it's possible to identify a Sr. from a Jr., and even a few unknown, or as yet unidentified people.  In addition to Strain, there are Wilson, Bowie, Caldwell, and Wardlaw relatives, and numerous other surnames, usually neighbors serving as witnesses or appraisers.  If you have a relative that is known to have a connection to the Strain family in Abbeville, look carefully for their name here!  If you would like a transcription of any of the wills, let me know that also.  Some are linked from the page on each individual person if you follow their tree from the homepage.

MARY STRAIN, my GGGgrandmother.

Mary (Polly) Wilson Strain, wife of Robert Strain. My GGGgrandmother's signature on her Will in 1833.

Mary Strain's witnesses for her Will. Her brother-in-law, Dr. Franklin Branch, her father, Matthew Wilson, and her mother Elizabeth Wilson.

This Matthew Wilson could be her brother, Matthew Harvey Wilson.

The executor of her estate, her brother, Hugh Wilson.

The appraisers of her estate, John J. Barnett, William Purssell, and Matthew Wilson. This Matthew Wilson has the "W" like her father's will.

Mary had a younger brother, Matthew Harvey Wilson. So it's important to try to distinguish him and his father from each other.

Hugh M. Wilson's final acount signature on Mary Strain's estate.
