ALLEN FAMILY

The earliest record of my ALLEN surname seems to be contained in a Bible passed down to Rev. William Bell Allen, which was perhaps his father's Bible.  His father was Rev. Walker Montecue Allen, a Cumberland Presbyterian Minister, who was raised by my GGGgrandfather, Dr. George T. Allen.

Dr. George Tribble Allen, was the son of John Allen and Martha Tribble.

John Allen (24 June 1752 - 10 Aug 1829) and Martha Tribble apparently had 12 children, with only 8 listed in the family Bible.  He is said to have lived in SC but moved to PA prior to the Revolutionary War, where he served in a Cumberland Co. Militia Battalion under Capt. James Young and Lieutenant Colonel James Johnson.  This has been difficult to document, although there is a card in the PA archives which might document his membership in this unit.  John Allen married Martha Tribble on 8 May 1782.

John Allen was the son of either David or Daniel Allen, as I've seen both names used, including them being combined.  David/Daniel Allen (16 Oct 1723 - before 14 Feb 1788) was born in England, apparently, was married to Mary Sheete (Sheote, Sheets, Shoette, Shutte) on 8 April 1747, and they had four children: William B. Allen (b. 3 July 1749), Mary Allen (b. 11 Sept 1753), Sallie Allen (b. 8 Nov 1756), and John Allen, my ancestor.  Information on John Allen in the DAR Library shows the name to be David Allen, with his estate administered in Henrico Co., VA in 1788. I'm sure I'll try to document this more, given time.
