REV. MONTECUE CUTHBERT "M. C." ALLEN
by his GGgrandson, James Allen Strain, © 2004
Most of the information I have regarding Rev. M. C. Allen has been previously organized into related factual information, which have links at the bottom of this page. He was the son of Dr. George Tribble Allen and Anne Elizabeth Conly.
M. C. Allen is mentioned in my grandfather’s memoirs as an ardent Baptist preacher who, although he would alternate taking my grandfather first to Baptist church and then to Methodist, would not step foot inside the Methodist church, merely letting go of his hand at the door, then waiting for him to return after the service was concluded.
M. C. Allen was married twice, first to Nancy Shettles, which produced nine (9) children, and second to Narcissa Martha Dunn, which produced four (4) children. Narcissa had previously been married to Abner Aycock, who is buried in the O’Neal-Dunn cemetery where Narcissa’s parents are also buried.
Children of M. C. Allen and Nancy Shettles are:
Ann Elizabeth "Annie" Allen
William Walker Allen
Mary A. "Mollie" Allen
Ellen Allen
George Franklin Allen m. Eva Angeline Cuthbertson
Caroline Amanda "Carrie" Allen m. William James McPhail
Henry W. Allen
Martha Dallas Allen
Emma Elizabeth Allen
Children of M. C. Allen and Narcissa Martha Dunn are:
Laura Launa Allen m. John W. Lowry
Naomi Ruth Allen m. James Robert Strain
Josiah Samuel Allen m. Susie Steel Ford
Lucy Malissa Allen m. Eustace C. Smoak
M. C. Allen was a Mason, and served as the pastor for his Lodge at the time of his death in Eupora, Webster Co., MS.
My grandfather, Allen E. Strain, wrote that M. C. Allen often played violin on his porch, and while M. C. was living with his own grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Conly, in the 1850s, there is a record of two sets of violin strings being purchased.
