Notes for VARINA DAVIS STRAIN:
The Drug Store in Pittsboro, MS, was known as STRAIN and DAVIS, druggist, in 1898, and probably for nearly 10 years prior to that. Varina Davis is the name of the wife of Confederate President, Jefferson Davis.
Varina's name appears "Virginia" in one census.
"Rina" is said to have been a teacher in the school at Air Mount, and then died in Pittsboro after she moved there with her husband, Dr. J. M. Shannon, according to an article in the "Yalobusha Pioneer." However, she is buried in the Air Mount Cemetery, with two of their sons.

Allen E. Strain mentions his cousin "Guy Shannon" in his memoirs. In addition, a family sheet from him states that George was married two times. Could George have also been called Guy after the death of this infant?
