1778-79 -- Jury Lists for Long Canes and Places Adjacent: Thomas Strain, William Strain (listed adjacent to each other); John Strain; Thomas Strain.  [Note the listing of two Thomas Strains, as well as the absence of any James, David, and Samuel.]

1782/05/30, James Strain supplied beef for Cont. Army, sworn before Justice in Beaufort Co., SC. [This is most likely NOT the James Strain of Abbeville.]

14 Jan 1783 estate of James Strain of Long Cane Settlement, filed 25 Jan 1783. Samuel Strain, adm.

24 Aug 1784 -- Survey for Thomas Harris on Calhoun's Creek adjacent to Samuel Strain and David Strain.

1785 – Plat for Samuel Strain, surveyed for Bishop 1766, adjacent John Strain. (Originally Daniel Bishop, then John Bishop?)

5 May 1785 – Survey for John Hamilton on Great Rocky Creek adjacent to Johns Strain.

June 1785 – Survey for Ponder, adjacent to David and William Strain.

3 June 1785 -- David Strain paid for militia duty and two horses lost in duty, via Samuel Strain.

(7 June 1785 – " " received interest on above indent, via Saml Strain.)

(7 June 1785 – James Strain, paid interest on indent, via Saml Strain, and sold to Peter Bremar.)

(3 June 1785 – James Strain paid via Henry Coffey). This is definitely a James Strain in LANCASTER County.

3 June 1785 -- William Strain paid for militia duty as Lieutenant and Captain

1789 – Plat for McMurtry, surveyed in 1785, adjacent to William and Samuel Strain.

1790 – Plat surveyed by William Strain for Marget Strain.

May 1793 – Samuel, David, and William Strain are charter members of the Upper Long Cane Society.

Feb 1794 – John Strain elected to join the Upper Long Cane Society

1794 – Survey for Bell adjacent to Samuel and John Strain, Jr.

1794 – McMurtry plat adjacent to William Strain.

Capt William Strain -- estate admin 13 June 1796.

1798 – Plat for Marget Strain, surveyed for William Strain in 1790.

John Strain -- will dated 26 June 1798, recorded 5 Nov 1798.

Will of John Strain -- proven 5 Nov 1798, recorded 26 Jan 1799.

1799 – Miller plat surveyed in 1791 adjacent to David Strain.

8 Sept 1810 -- John and Jean (Jane) Strain appt. guardians for Robert and Andrew White.

1822 – Hugh Reed (Reid) plat adjacent to Robert Strain, and his brother-in-law, Hugh Kirkwood.

Nov 1824 - Estate of Robert Strain administered.

Will of Mary Strain, 9 Feb 1833, proven 26 Feb 1833.

May 1 1834 – Nancy Jane Strain married William Bowie. (Four children of this marriage.)

3 Nov 1834 – James Strayn and Mathew H. Strayn mentioned as grandsons in Matthew Wilson’s Will.

Elizabeth Ann Strain d. 11 Oct 1839 in her 25th year of age.

Louisa A Bowie -- estate admin 22 Dec 1852.

A T Strain -- d 20 Oct 1856; A Thomson Strain -- estate admin 30 Oct 1856.

1861 – Nancy Jane Bowie moves to Spartanburg Co. (perhaps earlier?)

1864 – Nancy Jane Bowie returns to Upper Long Cane Church, 8 July 1864, then to the Town (Village) Church, then is dismissed to the Sumter Church in Dec 1872.  If anyone can positively identify this last church, please let me know.

1869 – Estate of John H. Wilson, brother to Mary Wilson Strain, decd., is administered by Nancy Jane Strain Bowie’s son, Robert Edwin Bowie, esq. Nancy’s brother’s James Madison Strain and Mathew Harvey Strain are notified as living out of state, and as heirs for the land sale. Nancy Jane Bowie is bonded on the estate.
